New Orleans, LA - Destiny Entertainment is pleased to present the cd release of its premiere artist, Ms. Monica Dillon. Jazz pianist/vocalist Monica Dillon will culminate 3 years of music in New Orleans with the release of the cd entitled “All I Have Is A Moment.” The public is invited to celebrate this monumental accomplishment with Ms. Dillon and a host of special guests on November 20 at Sweet Lorraine’s Jazz Club located at 1931 St. Claude Ave. at 9 p.m.
Known as “soulful jazz”, Ms. Dillon uses both piano and voice to create an infusion of funk, blues, & gospel influenced original jazz compositions. Ms. Dillon, a New Orleans native, has made a name for herself across genres working with several nationally recognized local artists while also holding court at Zachary Restaurant’s Sunday jazz brunch. To Ms. Dillon’s credit, she has had the pleasure of opening for violinist Michael Ward and saxophonist Gregory Dawson. Compared to the likes of Nina Simone and Rachell Farrell, Ms. Monica has shared the stage with Paul Batiste and his Guest Jazz ensemble, jazz vocalists Betty Shirley and Sharon Martin, bassist Edward Livingston of Los Hombres Calientes, June Victory, Sunpie and the Louisiana Sunspots, blues men Marc Stone and Harry Hypolite, the Batiste Brothers, and Mathilda Jones.
Ms. Dillon’s first cd release, “All I Have Is A Moment,” is a jazz oriented cd with a mix of grooving original compositions, soulful ballads. Penning all of the original material, Ms. Dillon highlights her skills as a composer and lyricist alike.
With the release of her cd, Ms. Dillon is scheduled to appear and perform in Atlanta, Georgia; Clarksville, Memphis, and Nashville, Tennessee; Dallas, Texas, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Oakland, California in the coming months. Tour dates will include signings, listening parties, and club engagements.
A true artist, Ms. Dillon is a published freelance journalist having written for several local newspapers during her residency in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Having interviewed celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, actress Thandie Newton of Beloved and Mission Impossible 3, actor/poet Saul Williams co-star of K-Pax and popular WB sit-com Girlfriends, basketball star Rasheed Wallace, gospel great Dorothy Norwood, and Carol Maillard of Sweet Honey in the Rock, Ms. Dillon is no stranger to success. Before leaving Philadelphia in 1998, Ms. Dillon self-published her first collection of essays entitled, “A Day in the Life: Lessons in Living.” Once a student DJ at Vanderbilt’s own student operated radio station, WRVU, Ms. Dillon now sits on the other side of the turntable with the release of “All I Have Is A Moment.”
