December 19, 2003 (Press Release) --
Curacao, December 18, 2003 – The Prima Poker Tour will embark on its most exciting leg in Melbourne, Australia at the biggest poker festival in the Southern Hemisphere. The PrimaPoker.com sponsored Hendon Mob will challenge the biggest names in poker at the Australasian Poker Championships 2004, otherwise known as the “Aussie Millions”, at Melbourne’s Crown Casino from, January 3–17.
Last year’s Aussie Millions saw three of the four Mobsters, in the final of the Main Event, collect over $111,000 AUS in prize money. This year, with Prima Poker’s sponsorship, The Hendon Mob plan to win the coveted title of ‘Australasian Poker Champion’.
The Aussie Millions will be a fitting climax to what has been a very successful and enjoyable world tour for The Hendon Mob. “Prima Poker’s commitment to the live game is demonstrated perfectly not only by our presence in Melbourne but by the 10 online players they are sending to the event. We are looking forward to not only building on our own past success in Australia but to meeting these players and giving them some advice and support,” said Barny Boatman of The Hendon Mob.
Since The Hendon Mob started their sponsorship deal with Prima Poker, they have been on a roll, having 42 money finishes in 47 tournaments, and brought home 11 tournament trophies. Does sponsorship help players win tournaments? If the Prima Poker tour is any indication, it certainly does.
Prima Poker will have a strong presence at the Aussie Millions, with 10 Prima Poker satellite winners joining The Mob at the festival. “As more online players have a presence at terrestrial tournaments, the game of poker will continue to grow and have more and more of a reach as a mainstream sport. Everyone benefits from the merging of the online and offline poker worlds,” said Tamar Yaniv of Prima Poker.
“Melbourne is a lively and hospitable venue. We know that Crown Casino appreciates what Prima Poker is doing to widen the appeal of their festival and that we and all the Prima Poker players can look forward to a very special welcome,” Barny commented.
“We have high hopes of bringing back a number of Prima Poker trophies from Melbourne with the combined forces of The Hendon Mob and our satellites winners,” continued Tamar Yaniv.
