31st December, 2003: The Mahindra United World College of India (Mahindra UWC) has announced its admissions open for the International Baccalaureate program for the 2004-2006 batch.
A unique residential college near Pune, the Mahindra UWC is a 7 year old IB college, offering courses equivalent to the XI and XII. The Mahindra UWC is a part of the international United World Colleges (UWC) movement which have sister colleges in Canada, Hong Kong, Norway, Singapore, Italy, Swaziland, UK, USA and Venezuela apart from India.
With only 100 seats each year, the Mahindra UWC attracts students from all across the world. About 30% of all students chosen are from India. The students of over 65 nations represented with a third of Indian students, give an unique flavor to the ‘International Education’ offered to the students.
With admissions closing by 30th January, 2004, there has been a rush for admissions at the college. Dr. David Wilkinson, Head of College of the Mahindra UWC averred, “The Mahindra UWC is open to all, without consideration of social or economic status. In fact we encourage diversity. To support this, the college also has a very magnanimous scholarship program and almost 90% of all students receive some form of scholarship or the other, some in full and some in part”
The admission system for the Mahindra UWC is distinctive in that all admissions are done by The United World Colleges Committee. The UWC committee chooses Indian students based on merit for the 10 United World Colleges across the world.
