January 14, 2004 (Press Release) --
From New York to London, Paris to Sydney and Toronto, and in many other cities worldwide, thousands of musicians and volunteers are busy staging events for the 2004 One World Beat Global Music Festival (www.oneworldbeat.org), which is developing into one of the largest charity musical extravaganzas since Live Aid. The global music festival is a series of concerts taking place simultaneously worldwide from March 19-21, 2004, providing a platform for socially conscious musicians to unite and convey a message of hope through their music; Music Making A Difference! The second annual event will support Keep a Child Alive, a new initiative of Artists Against AIDS Worldwide, set up to provide life-saving medicine to children living with HIV/AIDS in the developing world who will die without it.
The global festival, with more than 85 events in the making, will feature events in Canada, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Burundi, Romania, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States. One World Beat is truly a global festival in all respects.
"There are already more committed events worldwide for the 2004 festival compared to last year, with more signing up daily,” states Andy Treichler, founder of One World Beat. “We’re growing so fast this year and anticipate surpassing last year’s goals. The more events we organize the more people we can help.”
Kicking off the global festival is Stuart Blance, who will perform at Twa Tams, a popular nightspot in Perth, Scotland, and Fresh Sounds, in association with Shepherds Bush Empire in London, which has hosted some of the biggest names in music including Elton John, Jethro Tull, Bob Dylan and Oasis.
“It’s amazing to be working with such a dedicated group of individuals,” says James Brennan, from Fresh Sounds. “There’s so much energy and excitement building around helping others and it’s great for us to be able to stage our concert at such a historical venue.”
Returning for the 2004 global festival is Hamptons Entertainment, who will stage several events from their roster of talent throughout the United States, including Long Island, New York, and
Club Acoustica, Australia's premier acoustic performance network, www.clubacoustica.com/au, that will host many events in Australia during the 2004 One World Beat Global Music Festival.
Supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and famed artists such as Phil Collins, the 2003 One World Beat Festival led to its first-ever global volunteer effort, reaching a worldwide audience helping to raise money for many charities.
