February 5, 2004 (Press Release) --
Carterton hits the World Stage
CARTERTON, New Zealand, The small rural community of Carterton will become the center stage for one of the largest reaching events in the world on March the 20th when Musicians from around the country decend on Carrington park for a free outdoor concert.
The Concert, branded "Rock the Park", is part of this years Wairarapa Summer Festival but is also part of a string of simultaneous global events promoted as One World Beat.
One World Beat will see 50 concerts performed in 27 countries across the globe all at the same time in support of local charities and causes. The Carterton event is to raise awareness for the Violence Free Wairarapa campaign.
Rock the Park organiser Toby Mills said that Carterton will be the only New Zealand city or town to participate this year in the One World Beat programme, with planned concerts in Auckland and Wellington falling through due to lack of funding and venues.
"We are really looking forward to putting on a great show in Carterton. Carrington park is the perfect venue as it is within walking distance of the whole town but won't cause too much of a noise disturbance," said Mr Mills. "We are expecting to draw people from all over the Wairarapa, as well as a large contingent from Wellington, Palmerston North and Kapiti.
The concert will run from 2pm to 6pm and the lineup includes some classic rock and jazz from local favourites the Beamers and Stefan Brown, and will conclude with wellington rockers Monkey Puzzle .
Concert goers won't have to worry about forking out at the gate but they are asked to bring a good attitude, a sunhat and to leave their alcohol at home.
