February 25, 2004 (Press Release) --
Bellevue, WA – February 20, 2004 – Serengeti Law today announced that Amazon.com has extended its use of the Serengeti Tracker Web-based system to manage its legal fee processing worldwide. With Serengeti Tracker, Amazon.com efficiently processes electronic bills and produces financial reports to better manage its legal work around the world.
“Amazon.com selected Serengeti Tracker to replace its Access-based system for processing payment,” said Joanna Leinaweaver, Amazon.com’s Serengeti Administrator. “Serengeti Tracker allows Amazon.com attorneys to efficiently review and approve bills online. Tracker also enables us to generate up-to-date spending reports – in both U.S. and foreign currencies – which help to track spending across all parts of our legal department.”
Tracker accommodates legal bills in any electronic format, resulting in complete spending reports for clients. The system efficiently processes electronic bills in both LEDES 1998B (which is common in the United States) and non-LEDES formats (Word, Acrobat, rich text, etc.).
Tracker presents bills, budgets and reports in both the original currency and each user’s personal currency preference. For example, legal bills submitted in euros are reviewed by the client’s office in both euros and U.S. dollars, and then converted to U.S. dollars for payment. Tracker updates currency conversion rates for more than 150 different currencies at intervals selected by each company.
Serengeti accommodates other international user preferences such as customizable date and currency input formats. Special one-hour online training sessions for international users make it convenient for attorneys around the world to quickly begin using Serengeti Tracker. Law firms and clients do not have to install any hardware or software because they share the Serengeti Tracker system through encrypted Internet connections.
Companies can also use Tracker to locate new law firms by jurisdiction and areas of expertise in the Tracker Worldwide Directory of Firms. The directory includes more than 4,000 law firms in over 100 countries that are submitting bills, budgets, status reports and documents to corporate clients on Tracker.
"Because of its unique capabilities, Serengeti Tracker has become the system of choice for companies that have international legal work,” said Rob Thomas, Serengeti Law’s Vice President of Strategic Development. “The global marketplace has led to a dramatic increase in the number of companies with foreign legal work, from the Fortune 500 to much smaller companies. A wide range of law departments helped us design functionality that addresses the compatibility, currency, and training issues of international legal work.”
