TPMG Announces Statistical Process Control Training and Consulting Services

SPC also known as SQC (Statistical Quality Control) is a subset of the Six Sigma Methodology practiced by manufacturing giants like Raytheon, Honeywell, Bombardier, and Boeing. The purpose of SPC is to use statistical analysis and sampling methods to bring manufacturing processes under control. SPC has been the prime tool used by larger manufacturers to effectively eliminate defects, rework, scrap, delays and the substantial cost associated with them cost associated with them � also known as the cost of poor quality. �Currently, many small manufacturers and suppliers use mass inspection techniques where they inspect all of their final products and then re-work any defects,� says Gerald. �This is a very wasteful practice that usually ends up excess material, process, and overtime cost. These additional costs will always end up consuming a smaller company�s profitability or find their way into the product pricing. It is very inefficient. The practice of mass inspection is also a very indicator of poor management and leadership; when you think about it, you are paying your employees to create defects and then correct them.�



Recognizing that industry certifications such as ISO, QS, and AS and similar auditing bodies have become somewhat weaker and diluted, larger manufacturers are beginning to call for their suppliers to adopt well documented and well managed SPC programs. These manufacturers include Honeywell, Boeing, Raytheon, General Electric, Rolls Royce, and many more. It is becoming a matter of survival for small manufacturers to adopt SPC programs in their operations.
