March 2, 2004 (Press Release) --
Be there if possible.
Text of Corey's prepared speech:
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Virginia State Senate, My name is Corey Mangold, President of the International Naturists Association and ClothesFree.com. I am here today to represent over 10,000 INA members and to voice our concerns with the proposed House Bill 158. As a father of 2, I clearly see that this is a bill that eats away at every parents' constitutional right to raise their children in the best way they see fit. Whether you choose to raise your children in a Catholic Family or a Jewish Family, A Naturist Family or a Non-Naturist family, that is every parents right to choose. As long as the children are safe and not in harms way, it is unconstitutional for any government to dictate how parents raise their children. It is perfectly clear that the Nude Youth Camps in question have been in operation for over a decade and have never had any evidence showing the lack of safety or security provided for the subject minors. House Bill 158 singles out naturist families and attempts to make the parents targets for the way that they choose to raise their children. Dozens of documented studies have come up with the same conclusion that simple nudity and growing up in the naturist lifestlye produces a more positive self image and also teaches that every individual is different, but most importantly, very much the same. If we want to really help the children of this great country, then let's get down to the root of the problem. Our country has a significantly higher teen pregnancy rate, notably higher that most other First -World countries, also has a much higher youth suicide rate. Our children are put through so much social torcher by the time they reach high school that it's easy to feel less than mediocre and acceptance amongst peers is becoming harder and harder to obtain. Naturist children tend to be a lot kinder and more accepting to their peers and also a lot more socially mature than most children their age. Our children are constantly being tought by the media that they are ugly and will always be that way which feeds in to the medias "Scare to Consume" antics. The media clearly teaches our children that they are ugly and less than beautiful in order to frighten them into consuming habits where they will purchase goods, mostly cosmetic, that they are taught will make them more beautiful and acceptable. The media's continuous association of nudity with sex is giving our children a bad message. The forementioned nude youth camps teach our children about the importance of body acceptance and the acceptence of social, economic and cultural diversity. Mere nudity doesn't harm children, in fact, according to many psychologists, it is beneficial for kids to experience wholesome nudity. It helps them overcome the shame and phobia that they might have already "learned". It impowers them so nudity will never be a shocking experience as it shouldn't be. House Bill 158 is not only unconstitutional, but also a step back in the movement to improve the social well being of the children of this great country. Thank you for your time and consideration.
