March 12, 2004

"It's a flawlessly written romance with intriguing elements of mystery from award winning print journalist, Avie Townsend" - Diane Newton, founder of WNY Authors Guild

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 12, 2004 -- Anyone who has visited Niagara Falls can't help but marvel at the swift-moving Niagara River, or the roar of the mighty Cataract. Honeymooners love driving over the bridge to Canada to visit the amusements of Clifton Hill, not to mention the Casinos. Some wish they could take a piece of the falls home with them, to cherish and remember as the years pass them by. Now they can, thanks to Avie Townsend's novel, Winter Mournings.

Winter Mournings takes the reader on a romantic trip through the streets of Niagara Falls, over the Rainbow bridge and to the Rainforest Caf. But Niagara Falls is merely one location. Townsend's book covers much of Niagara County, from the shores of Lake Ontario, through the city of Lockport, to a scary drive along the Niagara River.

When protagonists Kathryn Miller and Tom Morgan meet on a job site, things don't go well. He thinks she's crazy to apply for a job at Walker Construction, and she thinks he's crazy, period. Each has resigned themselves to the fact that they'll spend the rest of their lives alone. Neither is looking for anyone anymore.

Kathryn finds herself emotionally drained when her parents are killed in a winter car accident, just ten years after her 18-year-old husband was killed the same way. She sells the family home and moves with her cat, Eli, to a quiet apartment in Niagara Falls.

Tom feels he has too much baggage to offer any woman stability. Divorced from a bitter, money-hungry wife, he spends weekends and holidays with his two adolescent children. Also, he has the sole responsibility of caring for his brother Mark, who suffered a permanent brain injury after a winter accident.

At the construction company, however, Kathy and Tom form a friendship, and at the edge of Niagara Falls they make a pledge. But can their relationship weather the storm of people trying to pull it apart, including their evil boss Leland Walker, or will it be swept away like debris in the ever-rolling cataract?

"This book started out as a short story," Townsend said, "but as I wrote along, it kept growing. I found myself liking these people, and I wanted to keep them with me a while longer."

Townsend is an award-winning journalist/author who lives in Western New York. She was social editor/columnist for the Lockport Union-Sun and Journal, winning an award from the New York State Associated Press for her two-part column on discrimination. She has written several fictional pieces for national magazines.

The book is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, and in area book stores. It can also be ordered directly from Townsend by checking her website, www.avietownend.com Each copy ordered from the website will be signed by the author.
