Press Release
Local Pagans Fling into Spring with the Tremont Tearoom – Boston 3/17/04
The Tremont Tearoom will be holding a Pagan Ostara Celebration March 20 2004 8 PM which is free and open to the public.
We hope you will join us for this ritual/celebration followed by refreshments and socializing.
OSTARA (pronounced O-STAR-ah) is one of the Lesser Pagan Sabbats, and is usually celebrated on the Vernal or Spring Equinox right around March 21 and marks the real arrival of spring. At the equinox the light and dark are in balance- day and night are of equal length, but the light is now gaining after the dark days of winter, towards the long days and short nights of summer, with their greater warmth. It is a time of returning vegetation, the flowering of the gorse, daffodils, primrose and coltsfoot; sun-colored spring flowers. Animals and birds are nest building and mating, preparing to bring forth new life.
The name for this Sabbat actually comes from that of the Teutonic lunar Goddess, Eostre. Her chief symbols were the bunny (for fertility and because the Ancient Ones who worshipped her often saw the image of a rabbit in the full moon), and the egg (representing the cosmic egg of creation). This is where the customs of "Easter Eggs" and the "Easter Bunny" originated.
It is the time of year for time of new beginnings, of action, of saying goodbye to the old and making room for the new. We can see this urge reflected in our lives even today. We talk of "Spring cleaning" and "In Spring, a young man's fancy turns to..."; the desire to run the greening fields (or, in our world, walk the parks, fish, and other outdoor activities) vies urgently with the obligation of our workday routines, often resulting in "sick leave days" and spur-of-the-moment "personal days" where the real excuse is "Spring Fever."
We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to educate ,inform and entertain your audience with news of this event and how it plays a role in the Pagan community., Stories such as this provide a great fling into spring perspective. Please feel free to contact us for further information. We hope to see you at our event….which is immediately followed by socializing and refreshments.
