March 24, 2004 (Press Release) --
CeBIT, Hannover, March 22, 2004 - Synchronica, the German specialist for synchronization and device management solutions today announced the Synchronica Management Server, for the first time offering over-the-air device management and firmware upgrade for mobile phones. The new solution is based on the open industry standard SyncML-DM (Device Management) supported by leading mobile phone vendors including Siemens, Nokia and SonyEricsson quickly becoming the standard for managing mobile devices.
Configuration and firmware upgrade of mobile phones is a costly nightmare for mobile operators and device manufacturers which are spending millions each month for end-user support and warranty. Each month, several hundred thousand users are blocking the help lines or walk into stores requesting support for reconfiguring their mobile phones or demanding a firmware upgrade.
The Synchronica Management Server can dramatically reduce this cost removing the need for customers to walk into a store or send in their phone for manual repair. Using the new SyncML Device Management protocol, the Synchronica Management Server can automatically reconfigure a mobile phone over-the-air and even install a firmware upgrade.
"It was about time that the industry agreed on a single standard for remote configuration and firmware upgrade" said Carsten Brinkschulte, founder and CEO of Synchronica. "We are pleased to see that all leading device manufacturers have agreed on SyncML Device Management and we are proud to be on the fore-front of this exciting development".
While the initial market for the Synchronica Synchronization Server will be mainly mobile phone manufacturer seeking to reduce their support costs, eventually mobile operators and finally large corporates managing a large amount of mobile phones will benefit from a universal remove management facility.
With SyncML Device Management, the industry is removing the final barrier for a widespread adoption of mobile data services - the configuration problem.
