March 24, 2004 (Press Release) --
(London)-- A new internet site blasted off today allowing the general public to become part of our exploration of space. Known as Space Chariots, the site brings together the widest range of space related products from model kits to a commercial flight to outer space.
Fueled by the combined expertise of internet and space companies, the site also offers a range of competitions where lucky winners with a friend get the chance to travel to Russia and thrill to watching a real manned Soyuz launch. Other prizes coming up include Zero Gravity Flights, and High Altitude Flights to 80,000 feet. Later this spring Space Chariots will be offering the chance for two people to undergo a one week cosmonaut training course. Entry to all the competitions are by phone or the internet using a credit card.
The site, at www.spacechariots.com is membership driven. Members earn commission from the sale of the products, and can purchase products at a discount. "Members can be from anywhere in the world and so too are the products." Ray Bainbridge spent months drawing together recognized space industry vendors and seeking out the best products from space entrepreneurs. One such industry leader was Jeffrey Manber, who signed the first launch contract with Dennis Tito and coordinated the first commercial shot on the International Space Station shown on American television. "The space industry continues to struggle to reach out to everyday consumers. This internet site allows everyone to become part of our quest to return to the Moon and journey on to Mars."
Products and services that members can sell include zero-gravity flights to experience brief bouts of weightlessness, guided tours of the major space centers of the world, including Russia's exotic Baikinour space center. There are also artifacts from previous space missions, real-time experience training at Star City just like the cosmonauts and astronauts and many, many other opportunities.
Ray Bainbridge says, "This has been something I have always wanted to do since I was a young lad rushing home from school to watch the men walking on the moon. We were told back then, that when we were older we would be able to have holidays in space, to date there has only been two paying space tourists, I’m now in my mid 40’s and like millions throughout the World I do not want to wait any longer. The only way to make space pay is for all space products to be accessible to the general public by way of competitions, thereby reducing prices by increasing the number of individuals able to take part. This is just Space Chariots first small step in helping space to be accessible to the general public. Now the challenge is to take a bigger step by finding more bigger space-themed products and competitions."
