April 15, 2004 (Press Release) --
LittleLite Software has released version 1.6 of the award winning "NCrypt TX", the tool for the secure communication over the Internet.
NCrypt TX looks like a common text editor but it has the capability to encrypt any text using the latest, standard encryption techniques. The encrypted text is composed by a series of hexadecimal numbers and can be viewed with any text editor, but to decrypt it's necessary to know the encryption password or passphrase and the encryption algorithm used by the sender.
With NCrypt TX it's very easy to transmit secure text with the traditional Internet means, such as e-mail, IRC chat, messengers like AOL, MSN, ICQ. The user just types his text in an open NCrypt TX window and, thanks to the Windows shell integration, can copy/paste the encrypted text onto the preferred e-mail, chat, messenger program. User can also drag and drop the text between the two applications. Of course, it's very important to agree with the receiver the password and encryption method. These data should be sent over a different channel (for instance, by phone).
NCrypt TX adopts the latest industry standard in encryption. User must supply a password or passphrase which is converted into a series of bytes with MD5 hash algorithm. These bytes are then taken as the key and initializatoin vector for the encryption method, that can be the old Data Encryption Standard (DES or 3DES), or the new American Encryption Standard (also known as Rijndael). Encryption takes keys up to 256 bits.
Also, traditional encryption methods are implemented, such as Caesar, Vigenere and Playfair. Useful for didactic purposes, or for aenigmistics or games.
This utility takes full advantage of the new Microsoft .NET Framework, which guarantees algorithm correctness and an extraordinary robustness.
NCrypt TX is available for evaluation through the best downloading sites, such as Sofotex or Soft32.com and directly from LittleLite site at http://www.littlelite.net/ncrypt
