The Romashka Eastern European Collective unites several Eastern European music projects sharing a common mission: to fill NYC’s growing appetite for live Eastern European folk music.
About The Village Klezmer Quintet: (http://www.romashka.net/vkq)
The youthful, vibrant sound of the Village Klezmer Quintet brings the old world melodies and rhythms of the Eastern European Jews back to cafes, clubs, and celebrations all around NYC boroughs and beyond. The group’s weekly shows at Café Moto in Williamsburg, Brooklyn draw a steady crowd of old and new fans, and the band’s members are welcome and frequent entertainers at weddings, bar mitzvahs, and other events around the tri-state area.
About Romashka, the NYC Gypsy Dance Party Band: (http://www.romashka.net/gypsy)
Romashka plays the music of Eastern European gypsies. Gypsy muzica for dancing and dreaming… the band’s repertoire includes gypsy and traditional Romanian and Russian music. The musicians are a wild bunch of virtuoso rhythm-throttling chop-splitting Brooklyn-dwelling world music afficionados, who have gigged in various Klezmer, Balkan, jazz, funk, and ska ensembles around the city.
