Bound By Courage: The Original Documenary Cut

April 26, 2004

The controversial Ground Zero documentary that competitors and agents attempted to suppress now comes to DVD in its original version.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 26, 2004 -- A Ground Zero documentary that shows no fires – no collapses – no immediate aftermath?

That’s Bound By Courage, the story of this nation's most horrific tragedy -- and firefighting's defining moment. A film told through compelling on-scene footage and stories of heroic proportion, as recorded by Amy Steelman and Lou Angeli, filmmakers and former firefighters.

Amy and Lou were the very first to report what was happening on the rescue scene. Beginning on September 12th, the couple appeared on every major television network, scores of international news programs, even local cablecasts, to report on the real story of life at Ground Zero.

During those first days, no one at Ground Zero was on the clock. They were all volunteers, Amy reports in the program. “When everything could have totally fallen apart, these remarkable people pulled together, Bound By Courage.” She adds, “They revealed to the rest of the world the true meaning of the American Spirit."

Since those comments were written and voiced in 2001, the narrative has changed considerably. The new story -- the marketing of Ground Zero. And that’s what makes Courage even more unique – and controversial. Courted by dozens of distributors, producers and two major networks, Amy and Lou became victims of an entertainment business whose only interest was to acquire their film to illustrate the stories of others.

The result – Amy and Lou lost their home, their business, and finally, their marriage. Now, three years later, Lou Angeli has decided to release the work as it first appeared at the New Jersey State Film Festival in the fall of 2001.

“This is the program that both Amy and I had promised to deliver to the emergency agencies during appearances on a dozen network television broadcasts.” Lou notes.

Just last month, a contract between the filmmakers, their California-based agent and the William Morris Agency ran its term. Today, nearly two years later, Angeli is finally able to offer Bound By Courage to its intended audience. And as promised, it is available to any emergency or support agency, whose personnel responded to the WTC disaster, at no charge whatsoever.

"In times of horror, Steelman and Angeli aim for sensitivity, not sensationalism: to provide information, not entertainment," reports James Careless in the January 2002 edition of Government Video Magazine. These stories from inside the world trade center ruins are a compelling, "must-see" for everyone whose life was changed by the events of September 11, 2001.
