After 20 Years of Separation, SUdanese Church Leaders Had a Consultation
Sudan Evangelical Alliance, a new body formed last year brings togher Church Leaders from northern and southern Sudan
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 29, 2004 --
For the first time in the last two decades, Sudanese Christian leaders, denominational leaders, and leaders of major Christian organizations from both the northern and southern Sudan met in Mukono/Kampala, Uganda for a two-day consultation. This historical consultation was organized and facilitated by SUDAN EVANGELICAL ALLIANCE (SEA) in partnership with both African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries (ALARM, Inc.), and Sudan Evangelical Alliance Partners (SEA Partners).
The consultation was a great success and it accomplished more than what was expected. It was a success and a victory for the Church of Sudan and a victory for Sudan Evangelical Alliance as the two days of consultation ended with an official endorsement of the newly formed Sudan Evangelical Alliance (SEA) and in a resolution to promote holistic ministry in Sudan in the areas of Education and Skills Development, Outreach and Evangelism, Food Security, Health and Sanitation, and Church and Capacity Building. Each representative left the consultation with a plan of action, the addresses and contact information of other believers in the country, and renewed hope that they could positively affect their country for Christ.
The miracle of the consultation is that ALARM and SEA brought together Church leaders who have been separated by the war for a period of 20 years. Some of these leaders had not met in the last 26 years. One of the great memories of the Consultation is when I witnessed some of the leaders from Khartoum embracing the leaders from Southern Sudan and especially two old friends (Enock Mukhtar and John Moi) who had not seen each other for 26 years after they were separated by the war. It was a glorious thing for me to watch the great joy, the big smile, and tears of joy from these brothers and sisters.
