Vimpelcom awarded “the best Java-game vendor” prize to IMS Telecom. IMS Telecom found a new strategic investor – Laboratory of Cellular Systems group. The group invested in IMS Telecom US$5 mln.

May 15th, 2004. Vimpelcom, one of the largest Russian mobile operators, awarded “the best Java-game vendor” prize to IMS Telecom. This award is a result of half a year successful cooperation between the two companies. In addition to its strategic partner’s award, recently IMS Telecom found a new strategic investor – Laboratory of Cellular Systems group. The group invested in IMS Telecom US$5 mln in form of acquisition of the company in May 2004. In terms of acquisition agreement IMS Telecom was merged with Laboratory of Content Systems Ltd. – one of the members of the group, so now Laboratory of Content Systems Ltd. is the only and full successor of IMS Telecom.
This couple of great business prizes is a result of well planned and aggressive market strategy. 17.10.2003 IMS Telecom started its business activities on the Russian wireless content market by launching PlayPhone.ru project – the first commercial Java-game portal in Russia. Just half a year later the company became the national-wide B2B distributor of Java-applications, offering access to its ready-to-use Java-game service for its business-partners throughout Russia. The Java-game service consists of more that 250 J2ME games themselves, vending infrastructure, and Premium SMS payment infrastructure, including connectivity to SMS Centers of all the leading Russian mobile operators.
And at the same time wireless content market in Russia is definitely a hot topic. Just a few figures:
During the first quarter of 2004 Vimpelcom subscribers made more that 8 mln wireless content purchases and it was 150% more than in the previous quarter. Vimpelcom is one of the largest Russian mobile operators – it had more than 13 mln subscribers by the end of the first quarter 2004. And there is continuous 1.7 – 2.3 mln monthly growth of total cellular subscriber base in Russia.
