44% of respondents feel their job is at risk since the 10 new members joined the EU at the beginning of May. 56%, however, feel secure and do not find the changes a threat to their current employment opportunities.
Will the expansion of the EU lead to more migration between Countries? Will it make it easier for foreigners to find a job in any one of the EU countries and ultimately threaten the job security of workers in their home Nation? Tip Top Job survey, reveals most employees do not feel at risk.
Ten new states joined the EU on 1 May 2004 making it a club of 25. These include, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Malta and Cyprus. Many of the 10 new members are poor with young institutions of state and they see the promise of Europe-wide stability and eventual enrichment. In the existing member states, there is more uncertainty over immigration, the environmental situation, over the new balance of forces within the EU and employment opportunities for employees.
The Tip Top Job survey was conducted over the last 3 weeks. The opinion poll was placed on each of the Tip Top Job domains of the existing EU Countries. Although nearly half of the respondents feel pessimistic about their job security there is still a majority of happy employees within the EU that feel their current job is secure.
