FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 28, 2004 -- Brooklyn, NY -- Mungler Winslowe Records is proud to present a Night of Independents at The Tank on 42nd Street in Manhattan. The show begins at 10:00 pm on Saturday, June 12, 2004 and will feature performances by Crystal Brandt, Satirius Johnson, and Tim Kaye. Admission is $5 and all ages are welcome.
Founded in 2002, Mungler Winslowe Records is a Brooklyn-based independent record label and home to a diverse roster of artists. Music styles range from acoustic singer-songwriter to garage rock (and metal punk.
About the performers:
Crystal Brandt’s third full-length album, Voter, is slated for a fall 2004 release. "In the move from rural Maryland to Brooklyn, N.Y., Crystal Brandt's music took on a late-night funkiness which blends jazz, rock, and contemporary folk. Brandt's vocals possess a brassy authority - you know that no matter what the material, she owns it. True to her down-home country roots, Brandt bridges two worlds with style and substance." Sing Out!, Summer 2004.
Satirius Johnson is Furious Billy (guitars/vocals), Alistair Wallace a.k.a. The Boog (guitar/vocals) and Bruce Engel (drums). “Furious Billy glides through genres such as folk, country, psycho-billy and good ol’ fashioned rock and/or roll with ease. [The music is] perplexing, like Beck meeting Bob Dylan and The Cramps while talking about Guided By Voices and how cool The Dead Milkmen were on their first three albums.” The Neus Subjex, May 2004.
Self-proclaimed bluegrass-emo-punk diva, Tim Kaye is a Baltimore-based piano magic-man. His new album, "It's Painless" comes out on Topease Records in June 2004, following his 2000 release, “Lettuce and Tea.”
The Tank is a midtown space for performing and visual arts emphasizing new work by emerging performers, designers, writers, directors and producers. The Tank is a groundfloor venue, a wall of windows facing 42nd Street, an outdoor courtyard open before and after performances, an active gallery, and an ever-changing stage located at 432 W. 42nd Street, New York, NY.
