ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY AND EDDIE DEEN’S RANCH SUED FOR $31 MILLION DOLLARS BY FAMILY OF SLAIN 16 YEAR-OLD
-Dallas, Texas (Wednesday June 2, 2004; 11:57 a.m.)
The family of Pierre Malone, a 16 year-old teenager shot and killed while attempting to enter Ice Storm II, hosted by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Eddie Deen’s Ranch, has filed a $31 million dollar lawsuit against Eddie Deen’s Ranch and Alpha Phi Alpha, Incorporated. Pierre Malone was a popular student and football player at North Garland High School. Prior to the shooting of Pierre Malone, a 19-year-old woman and her two friends told police a man from another car fired at their silver Ford Mustang with an assault-style weapon and punctured their gas tank. The Fraternity chapters hosting the event were from the University of North Texas and Texas A&M-Commerce.
Kevin Kelley of the law firm Kelley & Witherspoon released the following statement: “Our firm is committed to ensuring that Alpha Phi Alpha and Eddie Deen’s Ranch are held responsible for their role in Pierre’s death. Minor steps could have been taken to ensure Pierre and the countless other persons victimized that night were safe. In addition, the refusal of Eddie Deen’s Ranch or any other Defendant to accept phone calls from Pierre Malone’s family regarding funeral assistance is a reflection of their cold desire to place profits over the welfare of their patrons. Because of this failure and several other acts of disregard on or about May 23rd our firm promises a dedicated effort to ensure no other parent has to shed tears over the loss of a child in the same way Rovetta Malone has been forced to shed tears over the loss of Pierre.”
Pierre Malone’s family will be represented by the law firm Kelley & Witherspoon.
