HomePyramid.com is Stuck in the Middle and it's a Good Place to Be
Not quite a referral service or a reverse auction, HomePyramid.com takes the best of both worlds and introduces something quite intriguing to the construction/maintenance industry.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Westland, MI (June 2, 2004)--HomePyramid.com today announces that there is some confusion about what kind of service they offer to homeowners, business, and contractors. The company is often mistaken for a contractor referral service or a reverse auction, but it is neither. "We first noticed the problem at the Downriver Home Improvement Show," says Christopher A. Grzebyk, founder and CEO of HomePyramid.com. "Many people approached us and said 'I know of another company that does what you do.' Then they proceeded to describe some type of referral service."
Though HomePyramid.com is derived from the idea of a contractor referral service, it is different in several important ways. The customer submits his/her project online, just as they might do when using an online referral service, but this very well may be where the similarities end. As opposed to a referral service, who then distributes the project information to a limited number of contractors, HomePyramid.com allows an unlimited number of contractors to view and bid on projects of their own choosing. Contractors receive targeted leads because they can view all the projects on the site and choose the ones they would like to create estimates for based on project details and location. Unlike a referral service, HomePyramid.com allows contractors to submit their estimates online for the customer and competing contractors to view. Depending on the type of project and the amount of information provided by the customer, contractors may not even have to travel to the jobsite before submitting an estimate online. Contractors can view the "auction" and decide whether or not to submit more bids in an effort to underbid each other. However, the contractor who submits the lowest estimate does not necessarily win.
In a reverse auction type of environment, the lowest bidder automatically wins. This is a cause for concern among industry professionals who fear that quality work will be undermined in favor of low cost to the customer. Presently, reverse auctions are mostly used in the commercial sector of the construction industry, and a limited number of contractors must be invited to compete in the auction. HomePyramid.com can be used for both residential and commercial projects of any size and scope. Contractors can breathe easier knowing that the lowest bidder does not automatically win. Instead, the customer chooses the winning bidder based on credentials and past customer ratings as well as price. Grzebyk realizes that his new service, like all other things new, will take some getting used to. "When we explain that contractors compete for projects and the customer chooses the winner, everyone thinks it's a great idea," explains Grzebyk. "It'll take some time and effort to get the word out to the public, but I know it can work."
HomePyramid.com launched in March of this year. The company made appearances at the Downriver Home Improvement Show in Taylor, MI and at the Spring Home and Garden Show at the Novi Expo Center. To see more, visit http://www.HomePyramid.com
