June 11, 2004 (Press Release) --
Alfred, N.Y., June 12, 2004 - Backyard wrestling - the controversial underground activity practiced around the world - is rapidly returning to the public eye. Earlier today, plans were announced for a global series of events intended to showcase the best in the backyard wrestling world.
Called the 'Summer of Scorn Tour,' this series of events is coordinated by National Championship Wrestling, the world's largest backyard wrestling organization. NCW Director Chris Orleans hopes that this tour will change public opinion about backyard wrestling.
"With the Summer of Scorn Tour, we intend to show the world that backyard wrestling is not a violent bloodsport, but rather a unique way for young people to make friends while entertaining fans and themselves."
NCW intends to secure heavy media coverage of the tour's events in order to promote its individual member promotions. "Our top priority is to portray backyard wrestling in a positive light. The Summer of Scorn Tour will help to do that by spotlighting our fantastic member promotions around the world."
The current tour stops (according to NCW) are listed below. However, Orleans pointed out that "this schedule is in no way a final listing of tour stops; it's constantly changing."
June 13
Ephedra Free

Minneapolis, Minnesota
July 4
Summer Storm

Dublin, Ireland
July 17
Summerbrawl

July 25

"The locations of these events also shows how much of a worldwide phenomenon backyard wrestling has become," added Orleans. "Backyard wrestling is not exclusive to the United States; it's an internationally popular activity. We hope that this tour will show that backyard wrestling is not a crime but rather an enjoyable activity."
