June 11, 2004 (Press Release) --
Van Nuys and the San Fernando Valley in Southern California were made a little more beautiful Friday morning as Mid Valley Furniture employees and community residents participated in Operation Graffiti Stoppers, a program to remove trash and graffiti from neighborhood streets.
Cleanup teams spread out across the area to help clean up the streets in the program, which was organized by Mid Valley Furniture CEO Kenneth Kendall.
"It's just nice for our company as a whole to get together and give back," said Kendall, "Not only do we show residents we're responsible, but we also show our employees that we can work together for positive things."
"This is just my way of giving back to the community and improving the area we live in," said Brett Chapman, a six-year employee.
Cleaning up the community also serves to benefit the image of the Van Nuys area and help relations with its neighbors, said Mid Valley Spokesman Steven Jones.
Others simply saw the activity as their duty to the neighborhood in which they lived.
"Not only do we work here, we live in this neighborhood and need to do what's good for the future by taking social responsibility," said Debbie Gonzales.
Kendall said Mid Valley Furniture would schedule future cleanup events throughout the year.
