June 11, 2004 (Press Release) --
NEW YORK, NY – Celebrated actress and model Michele Hicks (The Shield, Twin Falls Idaho, Mulholland Drive), Erik Jensen (co-writer of the Off-Broadway hit The Exonerated ) and John Cariani (fresh off a TONY nomination for his role in Fiddler on the Roof) star in the Special Screening of Philip Farha’s psychological mystery Messengers, screening at Vision Fest 04, Sunday June 27 at 4:45 pm.
In MESSENGERS, a deadpan sci-fi debut by Philip Farha, a young doctor (MICHELE HICKS), investigates a mysterious medical condition among the upright citizens of a forgotten fishing village. As she tries to make sense of their phobias, she leaves rationality behind and comes a little bit closer to the end of the world.
A riveting homage to the paranoia films of the 1960’s and 1970’s, Messengers transcends the horror and sci-fi genres in a sharp display of wit and humanity. As the director says: “It’s a great time for paranoia.” The movie showcases its stunning visual prowess in an intricate combination of film footage, handcrafted animation sequences and homemade digital effects. It features a haunting soundtrack by electronic guru John Roome (“The Orb”) and includes two tracks by Woodstock icon John Sebastian (Luvin’ Spoonful), also making his film debut.
A true New York Indie – Messengers was shot exclusively on City Island (Bronx) and features a rich array of New York’s finest acting talents. Visit messengersthefilm.com for full cast.
