A Bird Flying North was written during the three years leading up to a major illness. The poems in the volume explore life on a broad scale as well as on a personal level. In one poem Sarah compares humanity to "...a bird who has broken the flock/ and now flies wildly into storms and rain..." In another, she examines her own personal struggle with loneliness, writing, "I am alone/Like the deserted city streets/Of a wintry afternoon./I am alone,/Like the single raven/
Flying over treetops. The beauty of the west coast scenery she resides in, along with the harsh reality of the area's homeless and poor is influencial in some of her poetry..
Before writing, "A Bird Flying North", Sarah worked as a content provider for a website, writing non-fiction articles. She has also written a non-fiction book, "101 exercises for fiction writers," and is in the process of publishign a novel
