MADRID – The adventures of two black FBI agents who go undercover as two white sisters is the premise of Keenen Ivory Wayans’ new film, “White Chicks,” which will surely follow in the surreal footsteps of the Emmy award-winning creator’s “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka” and the “Scary Movie” franchise.
Despite Wayans’ assertion that "the job of a comedian is to say the things that people think. You say it, and laughter is the reward," it is unlikely that most people would have considered converting two well-built black men into Hampton socialites. A family affair, the film stars Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans as Marcus and Kevin Copeland going undercover as Brittany and Tiffany Wilton, in a clear parody of the paparazzi plagued Hilton sisters.
Filmed in Vancouver, BC and produced by Revolution Studios, "White Chicks" premieres on June 23. The film doesn’t shy away from stereotypes, a concept the Wayanses have embraced since the days of “Hollywood Shuffle,” the groundbreaking comedy co-written and produced by Keenen Ivory Wayans.
"We take an exaggerated stereotype and really have fun with it. If I take something and ridicule it to such a degree that people could never look at it as anything real, then it really helps destroy a preconceived notion," Wayans told the New York Times.
In “White Chicks,” Marcus and Kevin attempt to restore their reputation after derailing a drug bust by accepting to escort two high-profile sisters, who have been threatened by a kidnapping ring, from JFK Airport to the Hamptons. The plan goes awry when the sisters learn that the FBI plans to use them as bait. The brothers then transform themselves into the sisters with the help of an FBI lab scientist to catch the kidnappers and re-establish their reputation.
As written by Keenen, Marlon and Shawn Wayans, the film promises to deliver the laughs that fans of the “Scary Movie” series are so accustomed to, since no one disagrees that "(the Wayanses) are among the funniest and most talented people in Hollywood," according to Revolution Studios Partner Todd Garner, who is “thrilled to (have worked) with them on this hilarious project."
Marlon Wayans, who plays Marcus Copeland, can also be seen in the Coen Brothers comedy "Ladykillers" opposite Tom Hanks, , co-wrote, co-starred and co-executive produced "Scary Movie," "Scary Movie 2" and has been acclaimed for his work in "Requiem For A Dream."
Shawn Wayans, who portrays Kevin Copeland starred in, co-wrote, co-starred and co-executive produced "Scary Movie," "Scary Movie 2" and "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood."
The film also features Maitland Ward ("Boy Meets World"), Anne Dudek ("The Human Stain"), Jaime King ("Pearl Harbor" and "Blow") and Brittany Daniel ("That 70's Show").
