Chicago…Chemically Imbalanced Comedy proudly announces their upcoming ENCORE Series production of Christopher Durang’s Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You. One of Durang’s funniest and most controversial plays written! Sister is the story of four adults who return to pay a visit to their fourth grade Catholic schoolteacher, Sister Mary Ignatius. It opens on June 25th, and runs every Friday night at 11:00 p.m. through August 6th, at The Cornservatory at 4210 N. Lincoln Avenue.
This satire addresses the misplaced trust in religious authority; a topic very relevant in our society today. Sister Mary Ignatius (played by Angela McMahon, author and performer of CIC’s production Judy in Disguise with Glasses) appears to be a loving, caring, and nurturing nun who loves nothing more than to teach young children the word of the Lord. But as events unravel and she is visited by four of her former students (one of which being played by Sweetback Productions founder Kelly Anchors), we become aware of Sister’s darker side! After her students present for her the pageant they used to perform at Christmas, events start to take a turn for the worst and we are taken along an emotionally charged roller coaster ride. Not many plays can blend a story with camels, cookies, Baby Jesus and guns, but this production by Chemically Imbalanced Comedy attempts to do just that! If you want an evening of non-stop laughs this is the play to come and see!
Cast: Angela McMahon Jin Kim
Gary Layne Phelps Jillian Erickson
Chip Reid & Kelly Anchors as “Diane”
