Concert featuring Phil Coulter, Celtic Tenors, and others, to raise funds for Josef Locke monument.

The late, Josef Locke 1917-1999, one of the most famous Irish Tenors of all time, is to be honoured in Derry, Northern Ireland..
Composer/musician Phil Coulter and The Three Celtic Tenors are to headline a Benefit Concert at the Millennium Forum in Derry 27 August 2004. It is hoped a figure of 26,000 pounds sterling will be raised for a statue of the legendary singer to be sited close to the Guildhall in the centre of the historic City.
Alongside yours truly, Michael Sheerin of Derry has been working like a Trojan to make this Josef Locke monument event a memorable occasion for all. Mrs Josef Locke, ( Josef's widow, Carmel to her friends ) told the writer personally that she is delighted with the news. Daire Nelson LM FM Radio show presenter spoke to me 'on air' today about the exciting news that is already attracting the attention of journalists from local and national.newspapers.
Josef Locke was a legend in his own lifetime and subject of the 1992 movie, "Hear My Song". The title of the song which he made his own and helped make him the highest paid entertainer in the United Kingdom during the 1950s. Princess Diana was present alongside Josef at the 1992 Premier in London. Josef appeared on Thames Television's, "This is Your Life", and was featured by Gay Byrne in a two hour special on Ireland's national television service RTE1. Just a sample of his many media appearances. Josef was quite a character - he was hardly ever seen on television screens without his beloved glass of Guinness!
Once again the world will hear his amazing and beautiful voice as the many 2004 CD compilations of his extraordinary repertoire are played on the airwaves, now he is deservedly in the limelight again.
