June 27, 2004 (Press Release) --
Trenton, NJ (6/24/2004)- In an effort to bring portability to e-commerce applications, web service provider Rokland LLC today announced its entry into the e-commerce hosting sector with the launch of new web services aimed at businesses looking to expand onto the Internet. The new services are already available to businesses worldwide at the Rokland web site.
“For too many businesses today, choosing an e-commerce provider means making a commitment to one company for a long period of time,” said Rokland spokesman Jason Opdyke. “The reason we have entered this sector is to allow businesses to get e-commerce services with the freedom to change providers down the road if they decide, and to allow them to take their infrastructure with them if they do go elsewhere.”
Most web services providers require long-term contracts for e-commerce services, contracts which lock companies in, because if a company decides to change providers they usually cannot take their web site or services with them because of software licensing issues. “Our services,” continued Opdyke, “are based on the open source model. We know that most customers will want to stay with us, but in the event they decide to switch providers, they will be able to take their entire e-commerce suite and web site to their new host, something that cannot be done with most other providers that only offer proprietary solutions.”
Prior to their entry into their e-commerce services, Rokland LLC specialized in basic web hosting and database services. “The best news for businesses looking for an e-commerce solution,” added Opdyke, “is that we already have a proven hosting infrastructure- we are not a startup.”
