(Free-Press-Release.com) July 2, 2004 --
On the 5th July 2004, Memphis City Tennessee, celebrates the legendary Elvis Presley 1935 -1977, 'the stand alone Icon of the 20th Century' (See the large and very heavy, "The 200 Icons of the 20th Century", illustrated book) Memphis stand on the banks of the mighty Mississippi river, the hub of American commerce and the distribution centre for the massive amount of goods traversing the United States by air, rail, road, and water.
Memphis lies just ninety miles or so, north west of Tupelo Mississippi the birthplace of the singer who grew to change the history of popular music.
The 50th Anniversary of Rock 'n' Roll, as specific time in history, is quite subjective and wide open to arguement. All the same, Radio stations around the world will hold a "Global Moment in Time", when Elvis's first single will be played on five continents!
Few would dispute the importance of the seminal single, "That's All right Mama", and "Blue Moon of Kentucky" by a nineteen year old Elvis , released on the Sun label, and subsequently broadcast on Memphis radio. Those particular few days in the history of music have led to decades of debate.
Nevertheless fair minded people everywhere would acknowledge Elvis Presley's total dominance of the popular music charts during the1950s and early 1960s because of the early Sun label singles. Elvis Presley fans who come from all walks of life, are not surpised at all that his records still sell by the million decades after his death. Elvis had a beautiful rich voice, the most versatile voice in popular music, it is no wonder young record buyers are discovering this obvious fact for themselves.
This time of celebration, Elvis Presley fans world-wide may be forgiven for bathing in the warm glow of vindication. Maurice Colgan. Swords, Co., Dublin, Ireland. http://community.webshots.com/scripts/editPhotos.fcgi?action=viewall&albumID=125575887
