Kilowatthours changes name to Up The Empire First Up The Empire Single to be released on eMusic.co

(Free-Press-Release.com) July 7, 2004 -- Up The Empire is the groundbreaking new noise-pop band formed by members of Kilowatthours. Since recording their first single, �Stars at Noon�, in June of 2004, Up The Empire has begun to receive an enormous amount of attention in their hometown, New York City.



�Stars at Noon� will be released on eMusic.com in mid-July and is already available on the Springman Records compilation Springman to the Rescue! being sold at all dates on the Vans Warped Tour.

Up The Empire is currently recording an EP that will see limited release in late summer and will be followed by a US tour shortly thereafter. The band has already begun to bring on board producers including Jay Pellicci (Deerhoof, Erase Errata) and Phil Ek (Built To Spill, Modest Mouse), for the recording of their upcoming album. Up The Empire will celebrate their debut show in New York City on August 17th at the SPIN and ASCAP sponsored VICIOUS Party hosted at the club Rothko. Also scheduled is an October residency at the Brooklyn venue, Trash, where they will play host to bands from all over the country including some very special guests.

The decision to change the name of Kilowatthours came after a successful US tour in March. The band had been through many lineup changes since its genesis in 1998, finally ending up as a five-piece in 2004 consisting of Ben Lord, Chris Renn, Dan Hewins, Brad Bennett, and Doug Keith. Kilowatthours had mainly been the project of Lord and Renn with a rotating cast of members other members. Permanent members Hewins and Bennett joined in 2002 and 2003, respectively and Keith came on board in 2004. �We finally felt like the lineup had solidified, and with the input of the new guys it just didn�t make sense to be called Kilowatthours anymore,� says Lord of the change.
