July 14, 2004 (Press Release) --
This event is a non-competitive fund-raiser designed to increase awareness to the plight of homeless and at-risk kids in Philadelphia. The race will begin at 9 a.m. at Lloyd Hall (Kelly Drive). The suggested donation starts at $10 for pre-registration and $15 the day of the event. T-shirts, fruit, water, and pretzels will be provided. Donation boxes will also be on-site to collect hygiene products and clothing kids that we help.
“In order for STANDUP FOR KIDS to succeed, we need the support of all Philadelphia’s citizens,” said Sean Martin, executive director, STANDUP FOR KIDS. “Whether you want to participate, donate to our program, or volunteer the day of the event, we need your support until we have reached Philadelphia’s homeless and at-risk youth populations.” Funds raised from this event will assist with the launch of programs such as Alternative School tutoring/reading/mentoring, Street Outreach, and HIV/STD prevention through education.
STANDUP FOR KIDS is honored to have The Philadelphia Sports Clubs (PSC) as its main sponsor. The first 200 registrants will receive $75 gift certificates for PSC. This event was organized as a senior project for Drexel University students, Jennifer Gwin and Kristin Simon, both May 2004 graduates.
