ATLANTA (GoodNewsAmerica.us) July 16, 2004 - Elections Canada is mulling over plans to charge Fahrenheit 9/11 filmmaker Michael Moore for a direct violation of Canadian electoral law.

ATLANTA (GoodNewsAmerica.us) July 16, 2004 - Elections Canada is mulling over plans to charge Fahrenheit 9/11 filmmaker Michael Moore for a direct violation of Canadian electoral law. However, Canadafreepress.com is reported to have learned through sources that the charges will be filed by the end of the week.
A 21 year old Queen's University student, Kasra Nejatian, has urged Elections Canada to charge Moore with violating the "Non-Interference by Foreigners" clause of the Canada Elections Act. Part 11, Division 9, section 331 of the Canadian Elections Act reads:
No person who does not reside in Canada shall, during an election period, in any way induce electors to vote or refrain from voting for a particular candidate unless the person is
a. a Canadian citizen; or
b. a permanent resident within the meaning of subsection 2 (1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
While pushing his film in Toronto just days before the June 28 election, Moore urged Canadians to reject the Conservative Leader, Stephen Harper. In a June 23 interview Moore said:
"What I hope that Canadians will get out of this is to get people out to the polls to make sure Mr. Harper does not become your next prime minister"
"(Harper) believes that Canada should be joining more with the United States instead of trying to be its own separate thing. And I think he has a big pair of scissors in his hands, desperate to cut away at the social safety net that (Canadians) have." "
"You should be saying, 'You know what? We don't want this country, Canada, to become like Bush's America,'" he said.
The Canada Elections Act penalties for such violations are a $2,000 fine - or a jail term of six months less a day. Mr. Nejatian of www.chargemoore.com and his lawyers want jail time for Moore, but realistically do not belive he will see the inside of a cell. However, Mr. Nejatian anticipates that Moore will be forever banned from Canada.
Mike Bradley, mayor of the Ontario city of Sarnia, said Wednesday he wants to make the filmmaker an honorary citizen of his city in an effort to help him beat the rap. Bradley, who was the star of Moore's film Bowling for Columbine, has written Canada's chief election officer saying:
"I am willing to declare Michael Moore a citizen of Sarnia, Ontario, therefore making him a de facto Canadian."
Nejatian claims to have gathered 1300 signatures supporting his case against Moore on his web site. He intends to send the petition to the commissioner of Canada Election.
"There’s no excuse for a foreign socialist millionaire to show up in our country and try to spread his propaganda," he said.
Ralph Nader also told Canadians they shouldn't elect a Conservative government in an open letter.
