July 19, 2004 (Press Release) --
St. Louis, MO (July 19, 2004)—The publisher of www.TodaysSeniorsNetwork.com, one of the nation’s leading seniors’ web sites is urging Senator John Kerry to exhibit a personal ‘Profile of Courage’ and use the Democratic Convention as an opportunity to take a stand against the actions of drug companies that are attempting to end access to the Canadian Option by restricting sales to Canadian pharmacies doing business on the internet.
Publisher Daniel Hines notes that while the site has endorsed Senator Kerry for President, he believes that dramatic action is required to solidify the support for the Senator among seniors.
Because of that, he has published an open letter to Senator Kerry, urging him to return donations received from drug companies, and to refuse to accept any other contributions unless the companies remove their restrictions on the sale of prescription drugs to Canada. The letter may be seen at http://www.TodaysSeniorsNetwork.com/return_donations.htm.
“Literally millions of Americans, primarily seniors, have already held a referendum on this issue, choosing the Canadian Option as the viable alternative to the excessive prices charged for prescription drugs in this country,“ Hines notes. “America’s Seniors have put the drug companies on notice that they will no longer support the expensive and unnecessary TV ads that flood the airwaves, no longer pay to provide huge lobbies and expansive suites and multi-multi-million dollar salaries and stock options for drug companies and their management.”
In a recent news release from another organization, it was stated that Senator Kerry has received $240,000 in donations from pharmaceutical manufacturers.
“This is a ‘sneeze’, in other words relatively insignificant in terms of total campaign budgets,” Hines continues. “But it could make a dramatic statement that clearly delineates the differences between the two parties, if Senator Kerry were to use the Democratic Convention as a ‘Bully Pulpit’ to put the drug companies on notice that their days of taking advantage of huge tax breaks and unregulated pricing are over.”
