August 20, 2004 (Press Release) --
Russell Bedford International, the global audit and accounting network, has further strengthened its European representation by the addition of a new member firm in Portugal.
The new firm, J. Monteiro & Associados, is a registered statutory audit practice - Sociedade de Revisores Oficiais de Contas (SROC) - and serves clients throughout Portugal from offices in Lisbon and Porto.
J. Monteiro & Associados was founded in Lisbon in 2000 by four partners - two from one of the Big-4 firms and two from the Ministry of Finance. Another Big-4 auditor joined as a partner at the end of 2003.
The partners are: José Monteiro (in charge of the Lisbon office), Ema Palma, Victor Manuel Batista de Almeida, António Francisco Xavier de Sousa e Menezes and José Carlos Pinto Silva Mota (in charge of the Porto office).
All five partners are registered members of OROC, the Portuguese institute of statutory auditors, and several are also lecturers at Portuguese universities.
Commenting on his firm's decision to join Russell Bedford, José Monteiro explained: "The firm's professional team previously worked together in an international firm. Having established our own independent practice, we considered that international affiliation was essential for offering our clients the benefit of worldwide resources, for the many opportunities to be gained through international networking, and for the support of a global brand name."
The firm is licensed to audit private companies, banks, insurance companies and governmental organisations. Important client sectors are banking and finance, public utilities and real estate.
In addition to statutory financial audits, the firm's services include voluntary audits, acquisition audits, due diligence reviews and advice on tax issues.
All the partners and staff speak English as well as Portuguese, and some also speak Spanish and French.
