August 27, 2004 (Press Release) --
Succasunna, NJ -- August 27, 2004 -- Who among us has grown up and not been exposed to blowing bubbles. You know, that soapy solution and the little plastic ring. When our parents first brought home those plastic bottles filled with that slippery solution and showed us how to make bubbles, we were delighted. We would exhaust the supply in no time. It was amazing as to how many tiny bubbles could come from just one dip. Well, I recently came across a product that takes the plastic bubble ring to a new dimension. A company named Blue Hill By Hand, designs an entire artistic collection of Bubble Wands around this whimsical toy.
These Bubble Wands are made one at a time, by hand, by people in the community of Madison, Wisconsin. From housewives to college students, all participate in this fun-filled endeavor. Another “Made in America” product that shows the human spirit is alive and flourishing in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Bubble Wands function much the same way as do their smaller counter part, the plastic ring. The only difference is that the Bubble Wands from Blue Hill are decorative in appearance and produce much larger and distinctly shaped bubbles. Grasping the wand in your hand, all one has to do is to dip it into the soapy water solution and move it through the air. The shapes will astound you. Since no two wands are alike, the variations produced are unique as well as delightful. And don’t fret when you run out of solution. Each wand comes with instructions on how to make more!
As I mentioned, these wands are decorative. Blue Hill uses a heavy gauge copper and brass wire that it bends, twists and shapes to produce varies designs to garnish its wands. Hearts, Stars, dragonflies and the standard circle are some of the more popular shapes. A colored jewel garnishes each wand and the customer can select the color of the jewel to match his or her own home décor. So besides providing a source of entertainment taking us back to our youth, it also doubles as a work of art as well. You will find many uses for the Bubble Wand, from plaything to wall decoration, garden accents (the copper and water proof staff make it suitable for the outdoor gardens as well) or flower arrangements (all you florists take note), to name a few.
I had the opportunity and pleasure to speak with the owner at a recent gift show in New York City. Her story is not so unlike others that followed their heart and spirit. Some eighteen years ago she was inspired by a design that she developed it into a successful business. But there is more to the story, because if it stopped here, it would just be another success story. As Blue Hill’s dreams and goals became a reality, it desired to help others to attain the same. That’s why a portion of every sale they make is given to non-profit agencies that help further the human spirit. The folks at Blue Hill contribute and support the following non-profit organizations:
1. National Kidney Foundation
2. Here on Earth (WPR)
3. Doctors Without Borders
4. Heifer International
5. Trickle Up
Besides the various shapes that are available, wands are produced in three styles. The Natural is your standard shape (heart, star, circle, etc.) fashioned out of a heavy gauge copper wire. The Elegant is similar to the Natural but a colored jewel garnishes the center of the shape. The third style, the Ornate, is a take off of the Elegant, but brass accents are used to fill in the shape. Each are reasonably priced below twenty (20) dollars. If your looking for those gifts that are truly unique, you must check these wands out. They are worth the look.
A striking similarity exists between each wand produced by Blue Hill. A spiral is fashioned into each piece making these wands a work of art that can be proudly displayed in any home decor. The spiral represents endless possibilities; imagine what you might do. To learn more about the spiral, its origins and symbology that has inspired a company, you can visit http://www.nfvproducts.com.
And to add more to the imagination of the human spirit, Blue Hill also creates ornaments (sun catchers) in the same whimsical style and spirit as their wands, but that’s another story.
The author, Nick Volpe, is always searching for unique artifacts created from the imagination of the human spirit. The Bubble Wands by Blue Hill are a testament to that endeavor. The Bubble Wands mentioned within this article are from Blue Hill By Hand Collections and can be viewed on his website at http://www.nfvproducts.com.
