With the 2004 Olympics ending ,many people will stop their Walter Mitty daydreams Of winning medals and return to being 'just' a salesperson 'just' a customer service rep 'just' working at their jobs, But Billy Cox, author of You Gotta Get in the Game doesnt believe people have to live ordinary hum drum lives.
"Only small differences separate superstars from average performers" says Cox, who's proven this principle so many times in his own life. "Although most of us will never be a star athlete or win an Olympic gold medal, anyone can be a star at the top of his or her own game but to do that You Gotta have a dream. He started as a penniless high school graduate, learning the concepts in his book and following his dream. "Over a period of 15 years, I worked my way to the top of every sales and management level available and eventually became President and Chief Operating Officer of the same company I started with."
But just working more hours won't create a new life. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has shown Americans now work harder than any other nation's citizens in the world, putting in more hours per week than any other workforce. Following a dream helps people work smarter, not harder.
Cox says, "I don't care if you're a preacher, teacher, a student wanting to make better grades, or someone wanting to promote teamwork within any company, the same principles apply anywhere in life."
Cox continues, "If you want to win this book will be your game plan. I've never seen anyone make a shot from the bench or a touchdown from the sideline. I've never seen a top producer sit around and wait for someone to call and buy his or her product."
His strategy in the book hepls people believe in themselves and set correspondingly larger goals for their self-defined success. In clear, easy to read language, it shows the steps to winning in chapters like, "You Gotta Have a Dream," "You Gotta Have a Team," and "You Gotta Get Off The Bench," Cox's trademarked "You Gotta" phrase is used throughout his book to highlight important points. "Though it may not be proper grammar, this in one of the most powerful phrases that can be used to emphasize important techniques or steps for success."
