September 17, 2004 (Press Release) --
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority – Sigma Eta Zeta chapter – invites the local community to participate in their 2nd Annual Tassels for Teens Bike-a-thon and Fitness Walk beginning at 8:00 am on Saturday, November 13, 2004. The 6k bike/walk from Shoreline Village to Alamitos Bay (Long Beach, CA) will help raise money for Zetas National Education Foundation (Z-NEF) and the chapter’s P.I.L.L.A.R.S. Scholarships.
Z-NEF’s principle purpose is to award scholarship grants to worthy and needy students nationwide for the pursuit of higher education study and to conduct community education programs which will aid in the educational and vocational improvement in individual and community living standards. The P.I.L.L.A.R.S. Scholarships are designed to provide financial assistance to minority, college-bound seniors who demonstrate excellence in Academics, Research and Service. These scholarships are awarded at the chapter’s Annual R.O.O.T.S. Celebration (February 2005).
So get involved! Help promote education by supporting our efforts. It’s easy to do. Your donation, gifts or in-kind services are appreciated. To learn more about Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and Z-NEF visit our website at www.zphib1920.org.
Thanks in advance for your support and for getting involved with promoting education. Together we can make a difference!
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was founded January 16, 1920 at Howard University in Washington, D.C., by five coeds. These women sought to establish an organization predicated on the precepts of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love and Finer Womanhood. The trail blazed by these five founders has been traversed by thousands of women dedicated to the emulation of the objectives and ideals of the Sorority.
Zeta's national and local programs include endowment of its National Education Foundation; community outreach services; and support of multiple affiliate organizations. Zeta chapters and auxiliary groups have given untotaled hours of voluntary service to educate the public, assist youth, provide scholarships, support organized charities and promote legislation for social and civic change.
