September 19, 2004 (Press Release) --
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
John Tuttle Inc. Has Succeeded in Simplifying Communication Between Cognex In-Sight Cameras and Fanuc Robots.
Elk River, Minnesota (PRWEB) September 19, 2004 –After three months of intensive beta tests, a simple two-way communication between Cognex In-Sight Vision Systems and Fanuc Robots is now reality. John Tuttle Inc. has developed this software to take advantage of the innovative improvements made by Cognex to their In-Sight series Cameras eliminating the necessity of a dedicated personal computer in the vision-robot system.
The software was developed in two versions; the serial version provides for two-way communication between the camera and robot and eliminates all I/O wiring. The serial version requires only a serial cable and 24 volts DC to be wired between the Cognex camera and the Fanuc robot. All commands to the Cognex camera are made by teach pendant program commands from the Fanuc robot through the serial interface. Data from the Cognex camera is returned to the Fanuc robot through the same serial interface and inserted into programmer designated robot registers.
The second version is the Ethernet version; this version provides a one-way communication path from the Cognex camera to the Fanuc robot. Commands to the Cognex camera are sent through I/O and the data from the Cognex camera is moved via FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to the Fanuc robot and put into predetermined registers.
Once the data is in the Fanuc robot registers, in either version, the data may be manipulated as the programmer sees fit. Possible choices include position of part, status of camera operation, object count, the Cognex camera’s active program number, and more.
Both versions, Serial and Ethernet, eliminate the need for a dedicated personal computer and taking advantage of the improvements in the Cognex In-Sight Vision Systems, lowering both the cost of hardware and programming of vision-robot automation. The serial version eliminates the need for I/O wiring creating lower cost, ease of integration and unlimited versatility of data acquisition and use.
