October 25, 2004 (Press Release) --
New York, NY – October 24, 2004: Radio talk show host Mike Gallagher entered Penn State University’s 100 Thomas Building to a thunderous applause Friday night, October 22, 2004. Gallagher took his nationally syndicated radio show to State College, PA after hearing of controversial filmmaker Michael Moore’s plan to appear in a campus production using student activity fees to pay Moore’s speaking fee. Through his radio show, heard daily on more than 170 stations, Gallagher challenged his listeners to help him raise more than the $30,000.00 cost of Moore’s visit with the promise to donate the proceeds to benefit the troops. Over the past year, Gallagher - who refers to his listeners as “Gallagher’s Army” – has been responsible for raising over $1.6 million dollars to send care packages to the troops in Afghanistan, Iraq and their families back home. Gallagher was able to add another $61,000.00 plus to the total as he announced to the enthusiastic crowd they had succeeded in reaching their goal.
During the past two weeks listeners have been mailing checks, contributing online and making donations through a toll-free telephone call center. Gallagher arrived in Pennsylvania Thursday night for a “support the troops” rally in Williamsport, PA and continued the fundraising drive in State College, PA on Friday with a live broadcast of his show from the Holiday Inn Express between 9:00AM – 12:00 noon EST. With hundreds of local listeners from the State College area - who hear The Mike Gallagher Show on WRSC 1390 - showing up to hear the broadcast Gallagher announced they had contributed $10,000.00 in just three hours during his morning show.
After a “Hollywood style” red carpet entry Gallagher, along with special guests Carlton Sherwood, producer of the documentary “STOLEN HONOR” and Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire.org, made their way into an overflow crowd of approximately 1000 excited Penn State students, local State College residents and listeners who had driven hundreds of miles to see the “Gallagher’s Army” premiere of FahrenHYPE9/11 – a documentary produced in response to Michael Moore’s Fahreheit9/11. Sherwood’s “STOLEN HONOR Wounds that Never Heal” was also featured.
Clearly appreciative of their response, Gallagher told the crowd, “ I am truly humbled. I can’t believe the feeling in this room tonight.”
Copies of both FahrenHYPE9/11 and “STOLEN HONOR” are available for a contribution to “Gallagher’s Army” at www.mikeonline.com.
