Roanoke, VA – The Southern Economic Development Council, Inc. (SEDC) honored The O’Connor Group with a Merit Award for their work with the Virginia Tobacco Commission.

The award was given to The O'Connor Group in the State Division under the Special Events Category and was presented at SEDC's annual conference held in New Orleans, Louisiana. The SEDC is an organization with over 1,000 members in 17 states in the American South.
The Virginia Tobacco Commission hired The O’Connor Group for public relations services to announce a new initiative. A news conference was held June 18th at the Advanced Institute for Learning and Research in Danville, Virginia to formally introduce Southside Virginia’s Regional Backbone Initiative (RBI). Virginia Governor Mark Warner, Virginia Senator and Chairman of VTICRC Charles R. Hawkins, along with the three major project partners were in attendance. Total media outreach for the event included 600 national, regional and local media channels in newspapers, trade magazines and journals, radio, TV and Internet portals.
