November 16, 2004 (Press Release) --
New York, NY, November 16, 2004 —Young Professionals of New York City (YPNYC) announced today its second annual Love, Santa holiday party hosted in conjunction with Sharon Glassman, founder of the Love, Santa holiday show. On December 2, 2004, 6:30–9:00 p.m., at the newly opened Samsung Experience in the Time Warner Center, guests will have the opportunity to read and select letters from children to Santa, as Ms. Glassman offers tips on making kids’ dreams come true.
Every year, the Post Office receives close to 400,000 letters addressed to Santa from children and families in need of toys, warm clothes, and more. Through the Operation Santa Claus program at the Main Manhattan Post Office, generous members of the public fulfill thousands of these requests each year, brightening the holidays for less fortunate kids and families. But thousands of letters languish unanswered because not everyone knows about Operation Santa Claus, or how to get involved. Love, Santa is changing that.
Since 1997, performance artist/storyteller and Love, Santa founder Sharon Glassman has been telling her funny, moving story about answering these letters. Following her show, she provides guests with their own opportunity to select letters and become involved with Operation Santa Claus. By joining Glassman in her efforts to spread the word about Operation Santa Claus, Young Professionals of New York City (YPNYC) increases Love, Santa’s audience while simultaneously offering its members a valuable chance to make a difference.
In 2003, over 100 people attended YPNYC’s Love, Santa holiday party, and this year 200+ people are expected.
YPNYC offers the Love, Santa holiday party as part of its community service program, which has included events such as volunteering at the St. Xavier’s Soup Kitchen, building a house with Habitat for Humanity, and painting the walls of New York City schools in conjunction with Publicolor. With a membership of young professionals interested in solid community involvement, professional development, and cultural diversity, YPNYC is dedicated to providing opportunities for leadership within these areas.
YPNYC membership is required for the Love, Santa event. For more information about the event, please visit www.ypnyc.org. For more information about Love, Santa, visit www.love-santa.com.
