Mission, Kansas – Futura Technologies has partnered with Boingo Wireless to provide WiFi hotspot services, and increase number of locations to more than 11,000.

It was announced today that Futura Technologies has entered a partnership with Boingo Wireless, one of the worlds leading hotspot providers, to power its WiFi hotspot network.
WiFi or 802.11 is a technology that enables high-speed, wireless connectivity on a laptop, PDA, or any other device that supports the standard in wireless networking. What a hotspot does is bring this technology to a convenient location, where consumers and business travelers can easily use it.
Although it has only recently began to deploy hotspots around the Kansas City area, Futura Technologies believed that is was time to actively seek a roaming partner that would allow its customers to enjoy high-speed connectivity at many other locations throughout the world. The company has chosen Boingo Wireless based on their leadership in the industry and their time-proven hotspot network. Their current service, FuturaHotspot will tie into Boingo’s network allowing immediate use of the network.
“We are very proud to be a part of the Boingo Wireless network, it is an honor to have the opportunity to be a partner in providing such a great service” said Josh Garrett, President and CEO of Futura Technologies.
“Futura technologies has aggressively started deploying Boingo Wireless hotspot equipment, and plans to make the service available at more than 200 locations in and around Kansas City by mid-2005.”
Futura Technologies has already started testing its wireless broadband network called FuturaWave, which is based on WiMAX or 802.16, and plans to use the WiMAX network for backhaul of its Boingo hotspots. This will make the hotspot deployment occur much faster and more efficiently, since the bandwidth needed will be provided instantly, and from Futura’s WiMAX network.
The company also plans to begin testing its Voice Over IP services with a softphone, and using Boingo Wireless as the Internet connection. This will allow consumers and business travelers to use their current home or business telephone service anywhere a hotspot is available.
