WASHINGTON, DC; DECEMBER 1, 2004: The African Policy Institute (API), an independent research institute on Africa, today announced the appointment of Dr. Samuel Esema, as the Acting Chair of the Board of Directors of API.
As the Acting Chair of API’s Board of Directors, Dr. Esema would provide leadership to the Board of Directors, whose responsibility is the general supervision of API, including approval of its areas of investigation, and safeguarding the independence of its work.
“It is an honor, as well as a challenge, for me to be selected as the first Acting Chair of the Board of Directors for this noble institution,” said Dr. Esema, Acting Chair of the Board of Directors of API. “Under my chairmanship, API would serve as a bridge between scholarship and policymaking, bringing new knowledge to the attention of decision-makers and affording scholars greater insight into public policy issues on Africa.”
Prior to being selected as Chair of the Board of Directors of API, Dr. Samuel Esema was a Senior Consultant with the Management Consulting Group of Maryland, and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Spectrum Medical Services, Inc. As an African who is a naturalized citizen of the United States, Dr. Esema has also worked for both the public and private sectors. Dr. Esema holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy, a Juris Doctorate (JD) degree, a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree, and a Bachelor of Arts degree.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Esema into the African Policy Institute,” said Dr. Januarius J. Asongu, Founder of API. “Given his education and experience, we are convinced that he is the best person at the moment to lead this great institution. His most challenging duty would be to work with the President in recruiting other members of the Board of Directors, while providing oversight to the activities of the Institute.”
