AFRICAN POLICY INSTITUTE SELECTS DR. J.J. ASONGU AS PRESIDENT
WASHINGTON, DC; DECEMBER 8, 2004: The African Policy Institute (API), an independent research institute on Africa, today announced the selection of Dr. Januarius Jingwa Asongu, as its President. As President of API, Dr. J.J. Asongu, would serve as the chief administrative officer of API, with the responsibility for formulating and setting policies, recommending projects, approving publications, and selecting staff.
“The challenge of leading a Washington-based think-tank solely dedicated to African policy issues is quite a daunting one,” said Dr. Asongu, President of API. “Through my leadership, API would strive to improve the performance of African institutions and the quality of public policy.”
Dr. J.J. Asongu was one of the brains behind the founding of API, and prior to joining the Institute, he served as the Head of Mission for the Southern Cameroons in Washington, DC, ant at the United Nations. He has also worked for both the public and private sectors and ran his own businesses in Africa and the United States. He holds a doctorate in Communications, as well as other degrees and certificates in Information Technology, Management, Philosophy, Linguistics, and Classical Languages. He has published several articles and given presentations at conferences in Africa, Europe and North America.
“With his education and experience, Dr. Asongu is expected to transform API into the leading research institution on African public policy,” said Dr. Samuel Esema, Acting Chairman of Board of Directors of API. “By analyzing current and emerging issues, API intends to offer practical approaches to African problems in a language aimed at the general public.”
