December 10, 2004 (Press Release) --
The UK Screen Award for 2004 is now approaching the deadline for submission and voting.
The Award, which includes a Ł1000 cash bursary, was launched in latter part of 2004 and recognizes not only film making talent but also the ability to promote films across the Internet.
Entry to the competition is free and the deadline is 31st January 2004. Filmmakers can submit their productions on the UKscreen website at http://www.ukscreen.com/broadcast.htm
This years submissions must fit into one of the following criteria: short films, commercials, music videos, animation.
In a move to make the voting process more democratic, finalists will be selected from votes made by UKscreen members, all of whom are associated with film making and production. Once the final deadline date has passed the top five films, in terms of member’s votes, will go onto a shortlist for final judging. Membership of the UKscreen community is free and open to all people who work in creative fields.
The overall winner will be selected by judges from the Film Industry and a cash bursary of Ł1000 will be presented at a special screening and Awards ceremony in March 2005.
The awards are aimed at helping to showcase and promote film productions across the internet and the voting process is an intrinsic part of this since good marketing and exposure is as important in film making as the final film itself.
Managing Director Sam Asi says, “This is the first award of its kind in the UK and probably anywhere in the world. It’s an exciting first step in a new short film era. For years short filmmakers have been frustrated by the difficulties of getting their work seen. UK screen’s innovation shows our conviction that the Internet is now the main distribution method for independent short films.”
And remember – the faster your film is submitted the more time it has for it to gain votes for shortlisting.
