December 11, 2004 (Press Release) --
SHERIDAN - The Toccer Players Association announced plans today to produce a video with highlights of the sport to introduce the game to newcomers in 2005. The video, called "Breakin' Strings I - The Sport of Toccer" will be produced in both DVD and Apple Quicktime, for streaming over the internet.
The video will feature some of the most talented players, showing off their talents in the video. "It's basically a big highlight reel, set to loud music," said Ron Bronson, Jr., inventor of the sport of toccer and Director of the Toccer Players Association, the sport's governing body.
The Association seeks musical groups or singers who will release their music for use on the DVD. "We're not selling it for profit. The goal is to put it out there, to help them promote themselves and ultimately, to help us bring toccer to a wider audience," he said. Their emphasis is on hip-hop or hard rock acts.
"We want high energy music, so anything that falls into that category would work, honestly. But it would need to be relatively clean, with no overt profanity, sexual or drug references," he said.
Bronson said the visual should help sell the sport to many people who up until now, cannot quite conceive how the sport works. "Toccer is hard to really imagine in some ways, because we're taking a racquet sport and putting it on grass - or inside a gym floor. People aren't really familiar with that. But when they see it, they'll want to go out and get a racquet."
Players score by hitting, throwing, or running the ball into a goal. The teams play sets, with the team winning two out of three sets winning the match. "That was the element of tennis infused into the game," said Bronson.
Toccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. The TPA currently boasts players in 22 states and nearly a dozen countries. Perhaps even more remarkable, is the fact that over 80 percent of the players in the sport are under the age of 18. "We've got a huge following of young people, who really find the game to be exciting. That's how it's grown and I believe, how it will grow well into the future," said Bronson.
The video hopes to reach that youth demographic, as well as expand to adults in their early 20s and 30s. "It's a great workout and the matches are generally shorter than any other major sport," he said.
