Shwaas is being released on VCD and DVD for the first time after its hall release in 2003. The VCD has been priced at Rs 125 and the DVD has been priced at Rs 349.
Trivia
This is the firs Marathi film to win the National Award for Best Feature film after a gap of fifty years. Shyamchi Aai won the inaugural National Award in 1953. The film is the official Indian entry to the Oscars in the Foreign Film Category. The film is based on a short story inspired by a true incident.
The film was made on a shoestring budget of Rs. 60 lakhs, a sum that the director and his friends scraped together.The film has evoked such a tremendous response, that several institutions like the Sidhi Vinayak Temple Trust, leading Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, cricketing icon, Sachin Tendulkar and many others either contributed or raised funds to help the production team in marketing the film at the Oscars.
The film single handedly revived the hopes of the Marathi film industry, once the cradle of Indian cinema. An industry, which boasted of such stalwarts like Dadasaheb Phalke, V. Shantaram and Baburao Painter to mention a few.
