January 3, 2005 (Press Release) --
EDUCATION and COMMUNITY OUTREACH DEPARTMENT
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
The Education and Community Outreach Department at Credit Foundation of America (CFA), the backbone of the Foundation’s efforts is comprised of four major components: Customer Services, Client Services, Community Workshops, and Online Education. These components service the public in the following ways:
Customer Services
Customers who have contacted CFA but are not enrolled in a DMP receive free financial counseling, in addition to our complimentary (no charge) educational materials. The customer package, which includes the booklet, “Understanding Household Budgets, Credit Cards, and Electronic Banking,” and a review questionnaire, allows customers to educate themselves at their own pace regarding financial matters. Upon successful completion of the review questionnaire (and with a qualifying score), customers are eligible to receive a certificate of completion from CFA.
In addition, customers also have the option to subscribe to our free educational newsletter, “The Cornerstone,” at no additional cost. Customers are welcome to contact CFA for free financial counseling from our Credit Counselors.
Client Services
Clients who have already enrolled in a CFA Debt Management Plan (DMP) receive a free Money Management Certification package, which provides them the opportunity to sharpen their financial knowledge. Clients are sent a workbook entitled, “Your Educational Guide to Money, Debt & Credit,” along with an interactive CD-ROM which will allow them to complete a 10-chapter study course. Upon successful completion of the chapter tests (6 questions per chapter) and a qualifying score (80% or higher), students will receive a Certificate of Completion, credit reporting cards, and registration with a nationally recognized program.
Also included in the client services are a free newsletter, “The Cornerstone,” which is distributed on a monthly basis. Clients also have the option of contacting CFA Credit Counselors at any time to receive free counseling and education.
Community Workshops
Community workshops are being established on an ongoing basis, and are centered on various topics regarding money management. These workshops are being offered at no charge to the general public.
