January 11, 2005 (Press Release) --
New Year’s resolutions to ‘lose weight’, ‘stop smoking’ and ‘start exercising’ are being set alongside more adventurous goals on goal setting site My50.co.uk. The free website allows users to record not just their New Year’s resolutions, but their lifetime ambitions, goals and targets. Users are encouraged to create an online list of things they have always wanted to do as well as any immediate goals such as New Year’s resolutions. Deadlines are set and users are encouraged to start achieving their goals instead of just promising themselves they will do them ‘one day’.
If users are stuck for inspiration, they can read the 50 site suggestions, or they can read the lists of those users who have made theirs public. Goals set coming into the New Year have ranged from ‘Lose lots of weight’ and ‘Give blood’ to the daring ‘Get a tattoo’, ‘Test drive a Ferrari’ and ‘Be naked in public’.
Christopher Dunst, co-founder of the site commented:
“People are full of ideas for things they would like to do in their lifetime, but most goals are simply put off for another time. The fact is, none of us are getting any younger, and if we don’t start achieving our goals and ambitions today, when will we start? My50 encourages people to live their life to the full so they don’t look back in years to come and regret not making the most of life. New Year is a great time to look ahead, and also to look back at how quickly another year has passed by. Resolutions help to give us a focus, but they shouldn’t be just for the New Year, they should be for the whole year.”
